A few months back, Tyler Stallings was featured on the hit TV show, Little Big Shots with Steve Harvey. After his episode aired, our Backpacks For Life team was receiving messages from supporters that we HAD to watch his segment. After watching, we knew we had to find a way to get in touch with this amazing 6-year-old boy...and we did!
Tyler is just SIX years old and has been spending his time in his community of Baltimore, Maryland by helping out homeless veterans. Tyler gives out 'hero packs' to veterans living on the streets and veterans at the Maryland Center for Veterans Education and Training (MCVET).
We immediately got in touch with Tyler and his mother Andrea to invite them to our golf outing. We were so amazed by Tyler's amazing personality and determination. Not only does Tyler give out items like we do in our BFL Backpacks but he also continues to visit and speak with the veterans on the streets. He knows where to find the veterans and makes sure they have enough supplies to get by.
At our Golf Outing this year, Tyler was our honorary guest speaker. Our guests were intrigued by our choice but as soon as Tyler got the on the mic, everyone could tell just how special Tyler is. He shared his story and views on veteran homelessness which left the crowd applauding him and quite literally speechless! Each year at our golf outing, we have an auction style 'Backpack Ask' and we encourage supporters to donate a certain number of backpacks to our cause. This year we are donating these backpacks to Tyler so that he can continue to build his hero packs and serve our veterans in Maryland.
You can watch Tyler's speech and the beginning of our backpack ask auction here.
We are so impressed by Tyler, his kind heart, big ideas and determination to take a stand for our veterans in need! Thank you Tyler! You can learn more about Tyler's mission to serve our veterans on his website!
